Moldova, United States mark 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations

Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/- The Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) welcomes the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Moldova and the United States, voicing confidence that the good relations of friendship and cooperation between both countries will further develop in various areas of mutual interest, the MAEIE’s information and media relations service has reported.

On this occasion, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur conveyed a congratulatory message to his American counterpart, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Galbur remarked that “in a quarter century, the friendship and cooperation relations between Moldova and the United States have deepened and extended from the first contacts between people in 1992 to a Moldovan-American sustainable and multidimensional partnership today. The countries cooperate not only in bilateral dialogue, but also in addressing global challenges in such areas as: promoting cyber security, fight against terrorism and eradicating human trafficking.” At the same time, Galbur highlighted Moldova’s interest in advancing the Moldovan-American strategic dialogue, voicing confidence that 2017 will mark a new chapter in the bilateral dialogue.

On this occasion, a lot of events are held in Chisinau to celebrate the anniversary in February-March 2017, including exhibitions, book donations, concerts, lectures at universities in the country and others. The official ceremony of the events dedicated to the anniversary was held at the Museum of Fine Arts on 28 February. The event was marked by speeches delivered by Deputy Foreign and Euroepan Integration Minister Daniela Morari, US Ambassador to Moldova James Pettit, Culture Minister Monica Babuc and guests of honor Mary Pendleton, first US Ambassador to Chisinau and Nicolae Tiu, first Moldovan Ambassador to Washington. Subsequently, the director-general of Moldovan Post Office, Serghei Nastas, presented the special stamp “25 years of diplomatic relations Moldova-USA” and personalized brand drafted by the Moldovan Post Office on the anniversary. At the end of the event, a photo exhibition of official documents was inaugurated.
