Moldova, Luxembourg to deepen bilateral relations

Chisinau, 31 March /MOLDPRES/- On a working visit to Luxembourg, Prime Minister Pavel Filip has met his counterpart, Xavier Bettel, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The two officials tackled continuing the successful meeting in the context of High-Level Segment of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, held on 23 September 2016 in New York. The premier he remembers with pleasure the talks and highly appreciates openness and interest of Xavier Bettel to deepen the bilateral relations in various fields of mutual interest.

In the context, Filip said that Moldova opted for boosting the economic cooperation between Moldova and Luxembourg and was interested in taking over the best experience and practices where Luxembourg had an advanced expertise, including the financial and banking system. He invited the business people from Luxembourg to come up with investments in Moldova.

To boost the bilateral trade relations, Filip and Bettel agreed to sign a protocol updating the agreement on avoidance of double taxation. Currently, 29 companies with capital of Luxembourg are operating in Moldova, having a social capital of over 1.9 million euros.

“Luxembourg was and continues to be an active supporter of Moldova, providing assistance in implementing reforms assumed by signing the Association Agreement with EU. We are grateful for this and we rely on the support of Luxembourg in our European integration”, he said.

For his part, Xavier Bettel assured that Luxembourg would further back the Moldovan authorities’ efforts meant to modernize the country, consolidate democracy and rule of law and increase citizens’ living conditions. “We are Moldova’s friends and we encourage you to carry out step by step reforms to adjust the country to the European standards”, he concluded.
