Moldovan, Italian officials approach bilateral cooperation

Chisinau, 5 April /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip today met Italian Ambassador to Chisinau Valeria Biagiotti. The officials approached the bilateral relations and opportunities to boost the Moldovan-Italian dialogue, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The premier described the relations between Moldova and Italy as very important for the country. Among the main areas of bilateral cooperation, Filip pointed out the development of migration policies, energy and environment sectors, food safety and carabineers department reform. “Thanks for the support given to Moldova’s European integration, experience and expertise of Italy is very important to us. We plead for further boosting the bilateral dialogue”, he said.
Valeria Biagiotti said that developments in the Moldovan-Italian relations were regarded positive in Rome. At the same time, the official congratulated the premier for the successful meetings recently held in Brussels and their results. “You have every support on behalf of the Italian authorities in the implementation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement”, the diplomat said.
Another topic was focused on representatives of Moldovan diaspora in Italy. In the context, Filip thanked for the Italian authorities’ positive attitude to our countrymen and highlighted the importance of concluding a bilateral agreement on the protection of social rights of citizens of both states.
Also, the sides discussed the possibilities to boost the multilateral collaboration between the two states, including given that in 2017 Italy holds G7 presidency and is member of UN Security Council, and next year it will take over OSCE presidency.
Italy is one of the main economic partners of Moldova, ranking third according to the bilateral trade and second by foreign direct investments. Over 1,300 companies with Italian capital are registered in Moldova.
