Moldova, Belarus to conduct joint projects for economic development

Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/- Moldova and Belarus will carry out joint projects and new projects, such as assembling buses, delivering medicines, processing zootechnical products, creating an integrated dairy complex in the Republic of Moldova. An agreement in this regard was reached within the 19th Moldovan-Belarusian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, which took place in Chisinau on 7 June.

“Fostering economic cooperation between Moldova and Belarus has been driven lately both by the work of the intergovernmental commission and the Moldovan-Belarusian economic forum. It is a very good result and will benefit the citizens of both countries. We want investment, more cooperation agreements, exchange of experience and more jobs, which we all enjoy," Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici said.

The works of the Moldovan-Belarusian High Level Commission have been focused on negotiations and discussions on commercial and economic cooperation in various fields, especially road infrastructure, liberalization of transport, technical scientific, industrial, agroindustrial, health and pharmaceutical innovation, as well as investment, the bilateral business cooperation and the growth of trade.

As a result of the negotiations, the Protocol of the 19th Meeting of the Joint Moldovan-Belarusian Intergovernmental Commission on Commercial and Economic Cooperation was signed, which stipulates the strengthening of the bilateral cooperation efforts for the next period. The roadmap for the implementation of the bilateral agreement on cooperation in the field of health, the bilateral agreement on scientific and technical cooperation and the Agreement on intentions for cooperation between the Central Union of Consumers 'Cooperatives of Moldova and the Republican Union of Consumers' Societies of Belarus have been signed too.

“We have achieved important agreements on four major issues. Thus, we will use financial mechanisms to implement the latest technological innovations for joint projects in road construction, industry, agro-industrial equipment and construction materials. Belarus guarantees the quality and financing of road construction projects. A good example of cooperation is the trolleybus assembly. We are ready for a new bus assembly project. 400 million dollars will be invested in these Moldovan-Belarusian projects,” Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Mihail Rusii said.

Gaburici said that the results of this Commission will contribute to further deepening the Moldovan-Belarusian partnership, with great cooperation prospects and significant development potential.

In Moldova there are 91 enterprises with Belarusian capital of 3.78 million lei. According to the National Statistics Bureau, Moldova’s foreign trade with Belarus in 2017 amounted to 224.67 million dollars, up by 9.69 per cent compared to 2016. Belarus is among the top 10 trading partners of Moldova.
