Moldovan premier demands speeding up repair of Zoology institute

Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip, in the beginning of a today’s cabinet meeting, referred to the lamentable situation at the Institute of Zoology and Micro-biology of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) after a fire had occurred in the institution’s building on 20 April 2018, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Shortly after the building had been devastated, a meeting of the commission for emergency situations was held, the participants in which ruled to earmark money to repair the institution’s roof. “We could not afford the rains destroy this building in continuation; therefore, we have allocated money from the state budget for repair. And after the guilty person is identified, he/she is to return the expenses borne by the state,” Pavel Filip said.
At present, the institution’s employees work in drastic conditions and waters gets into laboratories after rains. Thus, the PM demanded that the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, as well as the Economics Ministry speed up measures for the repair of the Zoology Institute’s roof.
At the same time, Pavel Filip demanded setting the reasons for the procrastination of the process of restoration of the building’s roof. “If we have bureaucratic obstacles, this means that we must intervene and change this. I will ask the Finance Ministry to see what the problem is,” the PM stressed.
The prime minister also said that it was urgently necessary to carry out procurement procedures. “Please, we should have the answers not later than tomorrow and say me concretely who will start these works and when,” Pavel Filip added.
The Institute of Zoology and Micro-biology was devastated by a strong fire on 20 April 2018. The fire spread on an area of 3,000 square meters on the roof.
