Switzerland backs Moldova's desideratum to sign Free Trade Agreement with European Free Trade Association member states

Chisinau, 12 November /MOLDPRES/ – The Moldovan – Swiss cooperation within political, commercial and economic areas of sustainable development was discussed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Moldova residing in Kiev, Guillaume Scheurer, being welcomed their upward dynamics in recent period, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
During the meeting Minister Tudor Ulianovschi appreciated the work of the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SACD) under new director, Caroline Tissot, regarding implementation of the Cooperation Strategy with Moldova for 2018 – 2021, notably the initiation of new projects in the field of good governance, universal healthcare insurance, job creation and cooperation between local and municipal authorities. In this respect, it was announced the process of renewal of the Diaspora programmes funded by SACD.
Tudor Ulianovschi and Guillaume Scheurer highlighted the upward dynamics of bilateral relations, including the appointment of new Moldovan ambassador to Switzerland, as well as the vast potential for cultural cooperation and opportunities for diversification.
As Switzerland holds the Chairmanship of the Council of the European Free Trade Association, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi reiterated Moldova's interest in launching negotiations on the signing of a Free Trade Agreement with 4 states, so that indigenous producers can have access to the entire European market.
Ambassador Scheurer welcomed the commercial and economic cooperation in 2018, assuring the authorities of Moldova of pledging by Switzerland of the intention of Moldova to conclude an advantageous Free Trade Agreement for Moldovan producers with 4 member states of the European Free Trade Association.
