Moldovan president says to summon foundation meeting of new parliament till 25-26 March

Chisinau, 10 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon is to summon the foundation meeting of the parliament of the new legislative period till 25-26 March 2019. The head of state made statements to this effect, after the Constitutional Court on 9 March had validated the results of the parliamentary polls from 24 February 2019.   

At the same time, the Moldovan president noted that he would soon initiate discussions with the main political forces which had entered the parliament, ‘’in order to find together the best solutions for the country in the present post-electoral situation.’’

„Now, when the Constitutional Court validated the result of the parliamentary elections, I think that the parties must get involved in dialogue as responsibly as possible, in order to decide the next governance and the country’s further political fate. Either a majority coalition made up of parties which have got the vote of confidence on behalf of citizens will be created or we will have snap parliamentary elections, the parties should quite clearly reason their position and assume the consequences,’’ a press release of the Presidency reads.    

Igor Dodon also reminded the political leaders ‘’that the national interest is above all and we must always be guided of this desideratum.’’  

The Constitutional Court on 9 March confirmed the parliamentary polls from 24 February 2019 and validated the mandates of the MPs elected.  

Under Moldova’s Constitution, the new parliament is hold its first meeting, upon being summoned by the Moldovan president, 30 days after the elections at the latest.
