100th birth anniversary of writer, political prisoner marked today

Chisinau, 28 June /MOLDPRES/- 100th birth anniversary of writer and political prisoner Vadim Pirogan is marked today.
He was born in 1921 (in some sources - 1924) in Bălți, in the family of Ștefan Pirogan, participant in the events of the Union from 1918, former mayor of Bălți (1924-1934).
He attended five classes at the Ion Creangă High School in Bălți.
He was the founder, then also the president (since 1998) of the Association of Former Political Prisoners and Veterans of the Romanian Army in the Republic of Moldova, vice-president of the Association Pro Bessarabia and Bucovina.
He founded the Museum of the Memory of the Nation (2002), which documents testimonies of the tragedy of the Romanians in Bessarabia and of the crimes committed by the Soviet people.
He contributed to the establishment of a cultural center, Memory of the Nation, for students and pupils (2003). Member of the Writers' Union of the Republic of Moldova.
Vadim Pirogan passed away on 16 January 2007, in Chisinau.
