„The 2021 year edition of the Environment Day is dedicated to the restoration of ecosystems. COVID-19 has repeatedly proved how much we depend on the ecosystems around us. In time of uncertainties and difficulties, many of us found refuge in nature. We travelled more inside the country and we discovered new places, which comes together with more responsibility towards the present and future actions,'’ Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Moldova Dima Al-Khatib said at the opening of the eco-fair.
For his part, Agriculture, Regional development and Environment Minister Ion Perju said that ‘’in conditions of the pandemic, vulnerability to the climate changes and challenges in the environment sector, it is necessary that we join efforts to transform the requirements for the environment into opportunities of the country’s sustainable economic development.’’ ‘’The cooperation of the central environment authority with specialized organizations represents an important instrument in the process of the awareness by the society and involvement of environment organizations in the working out and adoption of decisions,’’ Perju noted.
During one month, the environment community organized excursions to picturesque places, photovoltaic parks, wind turbines, woods planted for bees and ceasing landslides, on Dniester with kayaks, to the hydro-power station from Dubasari.
„Eco-technologies, recycling, waste separation, plantings, green businesses, ecological agriculture, protection of waters and soil, etc. – we have a lot of active people who dedicate themselves to these fields in Moldova and they really have what to tell. We want this festival to become more and more popular – we should become more curious, more involved, more active and more attentive towards the nature,’’ the executive director of the Association of Environment Journalists, the festival’s organizer Lilia Curchi said.
The 2021 year event was carried out by the Association of Environment Journalists and Ecological Tourism of Moldova, within a project financed by the Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) – UNDP, with the financial assistance of Sweden, with the support of the World Health Organization in Chisinau, UNDP Moldova, in partnership with the environment community – organizations, projects, activists, green businesses, etc.
