Moldovan-Greek Intergovernmental Commission to resume work

Chisinau, 28 June /MOLDPRES/-Boosting bilateral political dialogue and the resumption of high-level exchanges, cooperation in international fora and the evolution of the epidemiological situation in both states were the main topics addressed at a meeting between acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Aureliu Ciocoi and his Hellenic counterpart Nikos Dendias, held on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting in Rome of the Global Anti-ISIS Coalition.

According to the MAEIE's public diplomacy, strategic communication and media relations service, during the meeting, the two officials reconfirmed the interest of the parties in advancing the political-diplomatic dialogue and highlighted the importance of the recent round of inter-ministerial political consultations in Athens on 11 June, which allowed to address the whole range of current issues on the common bilateral agenda.

At the same time, the sides noted the importance of strengthening trade and economic relations in order to overcome the economic recession caused by Covid-19 and agreed on the need to resume in the near future the work of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Trade and Technical-Scientific Cooperation, which has proven to be an effective mechanism for working together in priority sectors such as agriculture, transport, tourism, science and technology.

They also appreciated the collaboration and mutual support of candidates for various positions in international organizations and regional fora. In this context, Aureliu Ciocoi congratulated the Greek side on the occasion of taking over, on July 1, the presidency of the Cooperation Process in South-Eastern Europe.

The two ministers also addressed issues related to regional security, the implementation of immunization programs for the population of the two countries and the possibility of lifting in the near future the restrictions applied to citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who would like to travel for tourism to the Hellenic Republic.
