Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/- The Academy of Sciences of Moldova / ASM /, the highest scientific and cultural forum of the Republic of Moldova, celebrates today the 75th anniversary of the creation of the first scientific institutions of academic type.
The Academy of Sciences of Moldova is the main scientific organization in the Republic of Moldova, which coordinates research in all segments of science and technology. The architecture of the Academy building, inspired by the Italian Renaissance palazzo, classifies it as an important architectural monument of Chisinau.
Inaugurated 75 years ago, the institution has become a veritable scientific forum for consecration, an institution of authentic research and creation. The establishment of the academic sector of science in the Republic of Moldova was initiated immediately after the World War II, but the inaugural act of opening the Academy of Sciences took place on August 2, 1961. With the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Moldova, on August 27, 1991, the Academy becomes a veritable republican scientific forum, a national research institution, with adequate autonomy to solve its internal problems.
The first president of the ASM was elected Iachim Grosul, PhD in historical sciences, member of the ASM (1961-1976), followed by Alexandru Jucenco, PhD in biological sciences, member of the ASM ( 1977-1989), Andrei Andrieș, PhD in physical and mathematical sciences, member of the ASM (1989-2004), Gheorghe Duca, PhD in chemical sciences, member of the ASM (2004-2019), Ion Tighineanu, PhD in physical-mathematical sciences, member of the ASM (2019-present). Particular attention is paid to expanding and deepening the collaboration and cooperation relations with the country's universities, with the relevant ministries and departments.
One of the strategic priorities of the ASM is to develop and strengthen international scientific relations, maintain bilateral relations with science academies and scientific organizations in many countries, conclude scientific collaboration agreements and promote integration actions in the European scientific space with the scientific community. ASM institutions annually delegate tens and hundreds of researchers to other countries and receive scientists from abroad.
ASM is a member of the International Association of Academies of Science (IAAS) and the International Council of Scientific Associations (ICSU).
