Chisinau, 1 July /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM) warns the population that July and August are characteristic of the ragweed vegetation period and asks landowners to take measures to destroy the plant.
In the context of the implementation of the Action Plan on combating and preventing the spread of ragweed for 2019-2024, approved by Government Decision, MADRM warns landowners about the need to destroy ragweed, which in recent years has gained a lot spreading, causing major dangers to both agriculture and human health.
"We urge citizens to take joint measures to prevent, combat and destroy ragweed on derelict land, along railways, roads, rivers, ponds, forests, near rubble, construction sites , in the storage areas of the excavated soil, as well as in the courtyards of houses or in parks ”, the ministry said.
For the effective destruction of ragweed, it is recommended to apply the mechanical and chemical method. At the same time, when using the chemical method, it is recommended to use herbicides approved and included in the State Register of phytosanitary products and fertilizers.
"In the research-experiment process in field conditions, the recommended herbicides have demonstrated an increased efficiency in destroying ragweed in the proportion of 70-99 percent", according to MADRM.
Ambrosia artemisiifolia is an invasive plant, extremely adaptable to pedoclimatic conditions, resistant to drought and heat, prefers sandy soils, less fertile, slightly alkaline, which places it in the category of dominant plants, compared to agricultural crops. The pollen of this plant is considered a very aggressive allergen with a negative impact on the health of the population.
