Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/ - The constitutional judges have dot admitted a notification by three lawmakers of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), who appealed a parliament decision from 2018, under which the field of the former Republican Stadium was transmitted to the United States.

The Constitutional Court (CCM) on 21 July declared as inadmissible the notification of three PCRM MPs, under which they demanded the checking of the constitutionality of a law adopted three years ago, according to which the field of the former Republican Stadium from Chisinau was transmitted to the United States.

As result of CCM’s ruling, the concerned field can be sold to the United States, which wants to build a new headquarters for their diplomatic representation in Moldova on this location.

The law under which the field of the former Republican Stadium was transmitted for the construction of the U.S. Embassy was voted in parliament and promulgated in 2018. The document was signed by the former parliament speaker, Andrian Candu, after a temporary suspension from office of the then head of state, Igor Dodon, who refused to promulgate this law twice.

In December 2020, the PCRM lawmakers and the ones from the For Moldova group voted the abrogation of the law promulgated in 2018 in two readings and notified the Constitutional Court, invoking the ‘’document’s unconstitutionality.’’

In late 2020, the diplomatic representation of the United States in Chisinau issued a press release, thereby stating that the scandal started on the law from 2018 negatively affected the relations between the United States and Moldova.
