Grant Program for management of waste tires, oils and used vehicles launched in Moldova

Chisinau, 2 August /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM), in partnership with the Environmental Projects Implementation Unit (UIPM) today launched a Grant Program for specific management of waste streams in the Republic of Moldova: waste oils, used tires and end-of-life vehicles.

The grant program aims to raise awareness among the public, in particular of private sector representatives generating specific waste streams, on the importance of waste management of used tires, waste oils and end-of-life vehicles. "The goal is to pilot activities related to waste management, in order to intensify the capacity of prevention, storage, reuse, recycling and to promote markets for products with recycled content," said project manager Dorin Andros.

At the same time, Andros announced that the Grant Program will promote technological innovations in the waste management segment, will contribute to the development of systems for the collection and / or treatment of specific waste streams, and will contribute to the launch of projects to increase environmental condition and the quality of human life, including, to increase the competitiveness of the local market for the specific management of waste streams.

The Republic of Moldova has modest experience in implementing both the basic legal framework and the development of secondary legislation to improve specific regulations on waste management. Our country has signed the Association Agreement with the European Union, which provides for the connection of national profile legislation to Community standards and norms and has approved the Law on Waste, which transposes a series of Community provisions.

At the same time, in order to improve the normative framework to EU requirements, with the support of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Project "Improving the institutional and legal framework for waste management in the Republic of Moldova" is underway. It provides for the drafting of three draft regulations (end-of-life vehicles, used oils and tires).
