Thin ice warning remains in force in Moldova till 4 February

Chisinau, 31 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Hydrological Centre of the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has extended till 4 February the warning as to the danger posed by the ice formations which appeared in water basins following the night-time frost.
According to hydrologists, ‘’on the period 29 January – 4 February, the ice formations are forecast to be gradually destructed.’’ ‘’The ice will be fragile and impregnated with water on water basins; the getting out on ice will pose danger,’’ SHS said.
In this respect, rescuers warn the residents to prove prudence nearby water basins. The warning is meant, first of all, for parents of minors, who are recommended to be quite attentive and monitor where their children play. People fond of fishing in ice holes must be prudent too.
Meteorologists said the weather would slightly warm on the next days; the air temperature will increase to +7 Celsius degrees during the day. At night, the air temperatures will oscillate between 0 and -7 degrees. Sleet is expected in southern Moldova on 1 February.
