Oil products prices continue increasing in Moldova over tensions in region

13:27 | 14.02.2022 Category: Economic

Chisinau, 14 February /MOLDPRES/ - The level of prices for oil products is further strongly influenced by the more and more pronounced increase in the crude oil’s quotations on international markets. Against the background of the discussions on the imminence of combat actions in Ukraine, the Brent oil price is continuously growing, reaching 96 dollars/barrel. This is the highest level in the last seven years and a half.

According to the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), the Platts quotations for the main oil products exceeded 910 dollars/ton for petrol and 820 dollars/ton for diesel, thus recording an increase of more than 250 dollars/ton for petrol and 220 dollars/ton for diesel against early December 2021.

Neither the forecasts for the immediately next period can be regarded as encouraging. ‘’The oil prices will remain extremely volatile and sensible to progressive updates as to the situation in Ukraine. If the troops start moving, the Brent crude oil will exceed, with no problems, 100 dollars,’’ reads an analysis quoted by Reuters.

Therefore, for 15 February, ANRE established the following maximal retail selling prices for oil for the principal standard-type products: for COR 59 petrol – 23.93 lei/litre and for diesel – 20.81 lei/litre.

ANRE assure consumers that the present mechanism of formation of prices for the principal standard-type oil products generates correct prices, transparent and easy to verify. They are influenced only by the developments on the international market and the possibility for oil companies to intervene in the process of establishing prices through unjustified increases is ruled out.
