Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today commemorated the fellow countrymen who had died in Afghanistan and paid homage to the veterans of this war, the presidential press service has reported.
In her public message, the head of state said that young people from Moldova’s villages and cities, who had had their life ahead, went to fulfill their military service in peaceful times, but found themselves in the others’ fight.
„The lesson of the Afghanistan war is simple: nobody wins in the arms’ competition, while peace means the guarantee of life and of development, for countries and people. This is an important truth especially today, when we everybody look at the situation in the region with much concern,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
The head of state thanked the veterans for their stoicism and civic involvement, which they had proved during those 33 years and urged them to further be messengers of peace.
