Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - Justice Minister Sergiu Litvinenco has paid a working visit to the Balti municipality, in order to learn the reasons for the procrastination of the works of construction of the arrest house, which started back in 2014.
According to the Justice Ministry’s press service, during discussions with decision-makers on the construction site and representatives of the constructions company, the minister asked for information about the problems which must be overcome to finish the construction. ‘’It is absurd that such an imposing object, started many years ago and in which tens of millions of lei was invested, to remain not turned to account. Especially as the situation is bad in the penitentiaries from Moldova and decent conditions for detention should be created as quickly as possible. I ask to make efforts to find solutions and finish this object,’’ Litvinenco said.
The arrest house will have a capacity of 650 detention places, which will meet the European standards and will be meant for people under preventive arrest and people convicted to initial regime. Under the draft, the construction consists of four blocks with related cells and rooms, places arranged for detainees’ walk, as well as the connection tower.
According to decision-makers, first stage works have been carried out at the level of 90 per cent. At the second stage of the construction, administrative blocks and the food block will be built around the guard perimeter.
