Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - The National Public Health Agency (ANSP) today received a consignment of 100,800 doses of Spikevax vaccine, produced by the Moderna company. The doses were donated to Moldova through the COVAX mechanism.

According to ANSP data, in 2021, Moldova received 280,800 doses of Spikevax vaccine. The first batch, of 50,400 doses, donated through the COVAX mechanism, was brought to Chisinau in late last November. The second consignment, of 230,400 doses, provided by France for free through the COVAX platform, was received in late December 2021.

The Spikevax vaccine, produced by the Moderna pharmaceutical company, uses the technology based on messenger RNA. This type of vaccine teachers the human body to create the antibodies needed in the fight against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Clinical studies showed that the vaccine has an efficiency of 94.1 per cent for protection against COVID-19, 14 days following the administering of the first dose.
