Chisinau, 16 Feb. / MOLDPRES /- Representatives of the Ministry of Economy and the private sector discussed with members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) tools for promoting the digitalisation of the business environment. The talks took place yesterday as part of a project to promote the digitalisation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in the Eastern Partnership countries launched by the OECD in 2021.

Minister of Economy Sergiu Gaibu presented the progress and priorities in the field of digitization. These include the IT Park and the Tekwill Center of Excellence in ICT, telecommunications developments, and e-commerce development and SME support programs.

"Accelerating the digital transformation remains one of the highest priorities for Moldova, where the development of digital skills is essential for both citizens and businesses. Thus, the Ministry of Economy aims to further advance the process of digital transformation of SMEs by removing existing barriers in terms of policies, finance, skills and innovation. For the next period, we propose the elaboration and implementation of a National Program for the development of the digital economy that will establish specific objectives and concrete actions in the medium term for the development of the components necessary for a digital economy ", said Sergiu Gaibu.

Dumitru Pîntea, the interim director of the Organization for the Development of the Small and Medium Enterprises Sector (ODIMM), also took part in the discussions, listing the support programs offered to SMEs, including business digitization programs.

Ana Chirița, TEKWILL project director, presented the programs implemented by the center and the figures that show an increased growth of the IT sector, which generates 7% of GDP.

The Paris-based Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is a forum for government officials to discuss and analyze the formulation and impact of policies that could enhance the socio-economic well-being of all mankind. Its work is led by a secretariat of economic and political analysts trained in all aspects of the economy.
