Chisinau, 16 Feb. / MOLDPRES /- From 1 March the fare for public passenger transport will increase by 0.1 MDL for one kilometer on national routes and by 0.2 MDL for district routes.

Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spânu announced and presented today in a press conference the Modern Transport Program. The program sets higher standards for road passenger transport services and contains several measures that will lay the foundations for a partnership between the authorities and transport operators, for the direct benefit of citizens.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, it is difficult to understand why public passenger transport has been forgotten. "Over time, there has been no serious desire to reform the sector, to fight against illicit transport, to regulate routes, to regulate bus stations, etc. During this period, we had a more complicated situation, fuel prices increased, and the demand for transport services was affected by the pandemic ", said Andrei Spânu.

Among the actions included in the Program for the development of public passenger transport are measures related to the increase, from March 1, of tariffs but also the development of the National Program to support carriers, modification of the methodology for calculating passenger fares and bus services; combating illicit passenger transport; route optimization and development of a mobility strategy.

The change in the methodology for calculating passenger fares refers to the increase, by 0.1 MDL for one kilometer on national routes and by 0.2 MDL in the case of district routes, of the price of a travel ticket.

The increase in the price of a travel ticket comes as a result of several protests organized by the carriers.
