New case of swine fever found in Briceni district

Chisinau, 17 Feb. / MOLDPRES /- The National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) has announced the identification of a case of African swine fever, registered in the territory of Briceni district.
"On February 15, 2022, laboratory tests confirmed the presence of African swine fever virus (PPA) in samples collected from four wild boars found dead in the suburbs of Cotiujeni, Briceni district, near the pig farm, which was affected of African swine fever in December 2021 ", indicates ANSA.
The territorial subdivision for food safety Edinet (within the coverage of Briceni district) has started the epidemiological investigation and is taking measures to combat and eradicate this outbreak, according to the provisions of the legislation. The area infected with the African swine fever virus registered in wild boar and the area of the localities in this area has been defined around the outbreak. At the same time, the monitoring area and the area of the localities in this area were defined.
On December 31, 2021, another case of PPA was detected in Cotiujeni, which was eradicated. Similarly, throughout the year 2021 and in January 2022, several cases of PPA in domestic pigs and wild boars were registered in the countries of the region.
ANSA requires pig owners to urgently inform its territorial subdivisions for food safety, veterinarians or local public authorities in the event of illness and loss of animals or the detection of wild boar carcasses. It also requires pig owners not to use food scraps in their feed and to comply with minimum biosecurity requirements.
