Moldovan PM talks to mayors of Ungheni district

Chisinau, 17 Feb. / MOLDPRES /- The development of localities in Ungheni, as well as local issues were addressed at a today's meeting between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and over 30 mayors from the district, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
Gavrilița underlined that the non-reimbursable grant of 100 million euros, offered by Romania, will be largely used for the implementation of projects in localities. "We will continue to direct external funds for the development of localities. The government is also working on mechanisms to enable all municipalities to access funds for local development. These will allow, among other things, the development of projects that could involve 2-3 mayoralties at the same time, solving common problems, such as access to water and sewerage, for example ", said the Prime Minister.
The official also mentioned that, although the Government has had several crises to deal with at the same time, it is also working on the strategic planning process - policies of major interest, such as fiscal policy, public service pay and next year's budget. will be widely consulted. "I urge you to be active and work together to develop the best policies, with a major impact for the development of localities, for the benefit of the people," the prime minister added.
For this year, Ungheni district will benefit from about 55.4 million lei in the Road Fund, for road repairs and maintenance. Also, during the year, from external sources, the Chisinau-Ungheni-Sculeni national road will be rehabilitated, on a length of 22 km, as well as the Pârlița - Nisporeni road, on a length of 11 km.
For financing from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, in the period 2022-2024, about 76 million lei are provided for two water supply projects in Ungheni district. The European Union has also provided funding for water supply projects in the region, totaling 6.5 million euros, which include the rehabilitation of 12.4 km of aqueduct, the construction of 5.4 km of aqueduct and 5.6 km sewerage networks. Also in 2022, another important project is to be launched, which aims to increase the energy efficiency of the Mihai Eminescu High School in Ungheni. About 1180 students and 100 employees of the educational institution will benefit from better study conditions.
In their speeches, the mayors of Ungheni district addressed several issues, including the need for water supply and sewerage, demolition of unfinished buildings, which are in a state of disrepair, waste collection, registration of water basins, use of sand quarries, local transport and so on Several mayors have reported problems with the execution of public procurement contracts. At the same time, the mayor of Ungheni, Alexandru Ambros, requested the involvement of the Government in the opening of a carabinieri unit, which would serve the entire region. The mayor of Cornești, Vera Buga, referred to the need to urgently complete the construction of the aqueduct in the locality, which would provide access to drinking water for several multi-storey blocks, but also for several neighboring villages.
In conclusion, Natalia Gavrilița thanked the mayors for the constructive discussions and expressed her confidence that most of the issues raised during the meeting can be solved effectively with the involvement of the Government, including through the professional work of the Territorial Offices of the State Chancellery and local public authorities.
