Moldovan parliament speaker meets new U.S. Ambassador on day when 30th anniversary of establishment of Moldovan-American relations is marked

Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today had a meeting with new Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon. The speaker congratulated the American diploma on his appointment to office and wished him success in work, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Igor Grosu stressed that namely today, on 18 February, the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Moldova and the United States was marked. In this respect, the parliament speaker expressed gratitude for the support provided by the USA during time.
”On this period, the United States has provided us with support in diverse sectors, among which infrastructure, business, agriculture, IT, combating corruption, justice reformation. This fact helps us including to consolidate the state’s institutions,’’ the parliament speaker said.
Also, Speaker Igor Grosu noted that he wanted to consolidate and strengthen the inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The officials also discussed the priorities of the parliament of the 11th legislative period, among which combating corruption, justice reformation, ensuring the energy security.
„The zero priority is the justice reform and the fight against corruption, a field in which the United States helped us enormously with expertise and we will need it in continuation in the implementation of pre-vetting. Just today morning, I signed this draft law, which will be submitted to the Presidency for promulgation. Another priority for the new governance is the energy insurance and here we are willing to diversify the resources through the carrying out of important projects on energy efficiency, renewable sources,’’ Igor Grosu said.
Ambassador Kent D. Logsdon said, in this respect, that the USA was further willing to provide support and consultancy in the implementation of the reforms’ agenda.
