Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/ - Employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) since early 2022 have intervened in 1,335 missions of liquidating fires of vegetation, which compromised 6,223 hectares of land. IGSU made public data to this effect at a news conference today.
The head of the Inspectorate’s prevention general department, Oleg Malasevschi, and the deputy head of the National Public Security Inspectorate, Victor Manole, referred to the impact of the vegetation fires, which more and more often occur in Moldova, as well as the dangers registered in the case of spread of these fires.
In this respect, the Inspectorate’s leadership urged the residents no to set fire to grass, bushes and household waste, as in conditions of low humidity, wind and high air temperatures, any spark can spread quickly.
Also at the news conference, decision-makers also informed about the record interventions made by firemen on the days-off. On 19-20 February alone, firemen extinguished over 1,000 hectares of burning vegetation. A major case took place on the outskirts of the Moldovan capital, in the Rascani district of Chisinau, where 150 hectares were compromised by fires.
