Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/ - The members of the commission for preliminary investigation as to the declaring the works of construction of the Chisinau-Straseni-Calarasi water main as public utility of national interest held a working meeting today.

The head of the commission, state secretary at the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry Ana Mardare stressed the importance of the decisions due to be taken at the Commission. ‘’They have at the basis agreements negotiated with the government of Germany and allocation of financial assistance for the implementation of the concerned project, as well as commitments assumed by the Moldovan cabinet. The decisions which will be taken must point to the next steps and ensure the good implementation without causing damages for any of the sides involved,’’ the official noted.

For his part, the director of the Centru Regional Development Agency (ADR Centru), Pavel Trofin, emphasized the importance of this project for the Centru Region, noting that the project was contained in the action plan on the implementation of the 2014-2030 strategy of water and sanitation supply. ‘’This project will have an important impact on the quality of life of the residents from the Straseni and Calarasi districts and the drinking water and the administrative services are the indexes which, once achieved, will align the beneficiaries’ lives to new standards,’’ Pavel Trofin said.

In the context, the representative of the KfW German bank for development, Sergiu Gutu, welcomed the initiative of the creation of this commission and the need to discuss the issue concerning the owners of the lands where the construction of the water main will be proposed, as this is a major risk for the project’s implementation. ‘’The project’s implementation with the status of national importance will considerably diminish the risk and will ensure the good implementation of the works envisaged, so that the end consumers can enjoy quality drinking water,’’ Sergiu Gutu said.

The project titled, Improvement of the water infrastructure in the Central Moldova, is implemented by ADR Centru and financed by the German Federal Government through KfW. The cost of the project is of about 27.65 million euros, of which 25 million euros represents the loan provided by the German government and 2.65 million euros – the contribution guaranteed by the National Regional Development Fund.
