Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - In an open letter submitted to the international scientific community, including to the leadership of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences (ASM), 159 laureates of the Nobel Peace Prize condemn the military invasion of Russia in Ukraine. Among the signatories, there are professor Randy Schekman from the California/Berkeley University from the USA, laureate of Nobel Peace Prize Medicine (2013), honorary member of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences (ASM) and professor Hiroshi Amano from Japan, laureate of the Nobel Prize for Physics (2014).

It is worth mentioning that, at the Science Week from 7-12 June 2021, professor Amano delivered, along with professor Randy Schekman and other Nobel Peace Prize laureates, a public lesson dedicated to the 60th anniversary of ASM and the 75th anniversary of the formation of the first research institutions of academic type(https://asm.md/lectiile-publice-ale-laureatilor-premiului-nobel-prezentate-pe-parcursul-saptamanii-stiintei-la-asm).

Contacted by MOLDPRES, ASM president, academician Ion Tighineanu said that the Academy of Sciences backed the consolidated opinion of the Nobel Peace Prize laureates on the condemning of Russia’s military invasion in Ukraine. ‘’We believe that the peace will be reestablished only through the joint efforts undertaken by scientists from all countries of the world,’’ the ASM president said.

The distinguished Nobel Peace Prize laureates express support for the Ukrainian nation and for the independent Ukrainian state, which faces this military  aggression on behalf of Russia.
