Chisinau, 3 March /MOLDPRES/ - France and the European Union will boost the support for Moldova, so that the authorities are able to manage the flow of refugees. EU has already allocated 90 million euros for Ukraine and Moldova; another 500 million euros will go to the countries hit.
European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarcic made statements to this effect at a conference held jointly with Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu, Interior Minister Ana Revenco and Foreign Affairs Minister of France Jean Yves Le Drian.
The Moldovan diplomacy head said that, in the last eight days, Moldova had been facing a large flow of refugees. He noted that over 130,000 Ukrainian citizens had entered the country, of whom about 60,000 are still in Moldova.
According to the quoted source, the situation puts an unprecedented pressure on Moldova and we need support on behalf of the European partners. Popescu said that he had discussed Moldova’s European aspirations. ‘’For us, Europe means peace and solidarity,’’ Popescu specified.
The two European officials showed moved by the solidarity proved by Moldovans, as well as by the authorities. They noted that more consignments of assistance, needed for managing the refugees’ situation, would arrive in Moldova on the days to come. Also, European experts in crisis management might come to Chisinau.
