Chisinau, March 5 / MOLDPRES /- Ministries of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova and Romania have established a Bilateral Cooperation Point in order to streamline and redirect the flow of refugees to Western countries. This means a shorter time to the final destination, reduced document processing time, streamlined humanitarian assistance and targeted refugees with special needs to countries where assistance is more specialized on their needs.
This was announced today by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ana Revenco, during a briefing. The official stated that in order to fulfill the mentioned objectives, it was decided to take over the refugees entering the country through the common border with Ukraine and orient them towards the border with Romania in the Moldovan-Romanian border points Giurgiulesti-Galati, Leuseni-Albita, Cahul-Oancea, where Border guards have been replenished to process a larger influx of refugees.
At the same time, in order to provide for those in transit, two more temporary centers are being built, where refugees will be provided with what they need - water, food, sanitation, rest. Work is already underway to build a new temporary refugee center at the border with Romania, Leușeni-Albița and PTF Giurgiulești.
A temporary train station will also be opened in Palanca, where refugees can wait for transport organized by ANTA and volunteers, which will take them to less crowded border crossings. This is done so as not to crowd and block the Palanca border crossing point, as well as to identify people who have been on the road for up to eight days. MAI assures that solutions will be identified so that the refugees will be affected as little as possible on their way to peace and a new home.
At the same time, the Commission on Exceptional Situations has decided to open the airspace for humanitarian flights, also in order to shorten the time in which refugees are in exodus to countries where they hope to find peace. Upon request, flights will be allowed to take refugees by air.
According to Ana Revenco, today, at around 9:00, more than 100,000 refugees are registered in the Republic of Moldova, mostly citizens of Ukraine, but also other nationalities, who were on the territory of Ukraine, before the war started.
