Moldova continues receiving assistance for refugees

Chisinau, 9 March /MOLDPRES/ - Three consignments of assistance on behalf of private companies from Romania and an international non-governmental organization arrived in Moldova on 8 March, in order to be distributed to the refugees from Ukraine. The government’s secretary general, Dumitru Udrea, who is also the head of the Single Crisis Management Centre, made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
According to Udrea, private people can donate at those four points for collection of assistance for refugees from Ukraine.
At the same time, the big batches of assistance, which come from external development partners, other international organizations, are stocked at the central warehouse from Chisinau, as well as at the warehouse of the Labour and Social Protection Ministry from the Vatra town.
„Presently, we are at the final phase of preparing the mechanism, when the costs for the management of the refugees’ crisis will be taken over by the foreign partners, United Nation’s competent organizations, other specialized structures,’’ the head of the State Chancellery said.
Dumitru Udrea noted that, at present, there were more than 107,000 foreign citizens in Moldova, Ukrainians and of other nationalities. On the period 24 February – 9 March, 3,114 foreigners asked for asylum in Moldova, of whom 2,279 Ukrainian citizens.
So far, 83 authorized centres for refugees have been opened in Moldova, of which 30 in Chisinau. As many as 3,549 places are available in Moldova at present.
