IMF to back Moldova in managing refugees' crisis

Chisinau, 9 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and the team of experts of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Ruben Atoyan, today discussed aspects on the management of the refugees’ crisis and the support needed by Moldova to reduce its humanitarian and economic impact, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The PM referred to the challenges faced by Moldova, in the context of providing humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian migrants. She noted that this crisis would be able to be successfully overcome only with the joint efforts of the foreign partners. The sides also discussed the economic impact of the war in Ukraine and the cabinet’s actions to quickly reorient the trade and ensure the food security.
During one week, the IMF team will assess the carrying out of the programme of economic reforms, financed under the Extended Credit Facility and the Extended Fund Facility, as well as the additional need of financing, in the light of the present macro-economic context.
