Moldovan government does not plan to cut price for excise duties on oil products

Chisinau, 9 March /MOLDPRES/ - The government does not plan to cut the price for excise duties, in the context of the unprecedented increase in the prices for oil products, as this would be inefficient. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita made statements to this effect at a news conference following the cabinet meeting today.

„A cut in the prices for excise duties will be quite quickly compensated by other increases; therefore, the government will consider a programme of targeted measures for the more vulnerable categories,’’ Gavrilita said.

The PM noted that, in this respect, the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry would work out a programme on support for farmers, quite necessary in the spring works. Respectively, the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry will come up with options for carriers, which is to ease their situations. ‘’As for the ordinary consumer of fuels, i.e. for owners of vehicles, we can come up only with measures of support of economic activities, salaries’ increase, etc.,’’ the official specified.

Referring to the criticism brought against the government as to the restrictions on the export of maize, other cereals, the prime minister said that the decision-makers had acted based on official figures presented by producers.

„It means that untrue figures have been earlier announced and we took the decision being guided only by our information. Now, we discover that the stock is big, that this is not for the benefit of producers, especially small ones. We will return to the subject, taking into account the real state of things in the sector,’’ the prime minister added.
