Moldovan foreign affairs minister has phone conversation with Greek counterpart

Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu today had a phone conversation with Foreign Affairs Minister of Greece Nikos Dendias. The officials tackled subjects on the management of the refugees who arrived in Moldova in the wake of the war in Ukraine, as well as the regional situation, in the context of the security crisis in the neighbour country, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
During the discussion, the diplomats reiterated the firm support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders.
„I discussed with my Greek counterpart the submission of our application on accession to the European Union, stressing our aspirations of irreversible anchoring of Moldova in the European space,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.
An important subject of the discussions represented the strengthening of the relations with the European Union in the long run; the Moldovan official noted that the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) had brought multiple benefits to our citizens.
„We want to extend the cooperation with the European Union on new sectors, including as regards he elimination of the quantitative restrictions in the trade with EU, as well as the cutting of the tariffs for the roaming services,’’ the Moldovan diplomacy head added.
At the same time, Minister Nikos Dendias expressed support for Moldova’s European path and confirmed solidarity, noting that Greece backed the efforts of managing the difficult situations faced by Moldova, including as regards the process of refugees’ relocation.
