Moldovan president meets German foreign affairs minister

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of Germany Annalena Baerbock. The German diplomacy head is on a working visit to Chisinau, in order to collect facts, from the first source, about the security situation in the region and the impact of the war in Ukraine on Moldova. Attending the event was Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, the presidential pres service has reported.
President Maia Sandu and Federal Minister Annalena Baerbock expressed support for the ceasing of the fire and reestablishment of peace in Ukraine. The head of state referred to the security risks and the major economic impact of the war in Ukraine for Moldova. In the context, President Maia Sandu noted the difficult situation triggered by the substantial increase in prices and the risks to the energy security.
An important subject of the discussion was the crisis of refugees. President Sandu reaffirmed Moldova’s willingness to help, in continuation, the people who flee the war from Ukraine. Minister Baerbock appreciated the solidarity of the authorities and citizens of Moldova for the refugees and promised that Germany would provide assistance to help them.
As for the bilateral agenda, President Maia Sandu appreciated the support provided by the German side in various sectors and expressed interest in boosting the Moldovan-German cooperation, especially in the energy sector.
