Number of refugees from Ukraine in Moldova decreasing

Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has been recorded a decrease in the number of Ukrainian refugees on its territory starting from 8 March. While on 8 March this year, the Single Crisis Management Centre informed about a number of 128,759 refugees, on 14 March, there are 102,836 refugees from Ukraine, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

This tendency is due to the effort to help citizens of Ukraine reach European Union member countries. In this respect, refugees are carried by cars, trains and by air to other destinations. Thus, on the period 8-13 March (18:00), 242 bus routes were carried out and more than 8,000 people were transported. Another over 4,000 people from Ukraine arrived in Romania by commercial trains and the special train Causeni-Chisinau-Iasi, organized by the Single Crisis Management Centre. Also, on 8-14 March 2022, flights were made to Israel, Bulgaria, Turkey and Germany, where more than 1,400 refugees travelled. The citizens who arrived in Moldova from Ukraine continue to leave for other destinations also by personal vehicles or Moldovan citizens help them cross the border with Romania.     

As many as 48,405 people out of all the 102,836 refugees are children. Ninety six authorized placement centres, 2 emergency shelters and centres organized by the Interior Ministry work in Moldova. More refugees are accommodated in boarding houses, hotels and homes of people from Moldova. There are more than 4,000 places available in authorized placement centres.
