Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition titled, The Colours of Orthodoxy. Poland, was opened in open air at the National History Museum of Moldova today. Although the dominating religion is the catholic one in Poland, during centuries, supporters of the Orthodox Church and the Greek Catholic church have been living on Polish territories. Some of the traditions and their rich heritage are presented at this exhibition.
Despite the relatively small number of believers, the Orthodox Church represents an important part of the Polish culture. In some regions of Poland (especially the ones from north-east and south-east), the supporters of the Orthodox Church and the church united with the Roman Catholic Church represents the majority of the population or an important part of it (for instance, in the Podlasie or Polesie regions). The beauty of the nature, the ethnic and cultural diversity, as well as the rich story of these lands represents an attraction for tourists. Poland also has valuable monuments associated to the churches from the east and eight wood churches from the Sub-Carpathian region are on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage.
The exhibition comprises 30 banners. It will be opened till 30 April.
