Foreign Ministers of Moldova, Italy signed joint statement

Chisinau, March 15 / MOLDPRES /- Foreign Ministers Nicu Popescu and Luigi Di Maio signed a joint statement in Chisinau today between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The head of diplomacy in Chisinau mentioned that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations. "It is a moment when we mark 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. During this time we established a friendly relationship. We are currently appreciating Italy's solidarity with the Republic of Moldova, which has received over 300,000 refugees in recent weeks. Currently, there are over 100,000 refugees on our territory ", said Popescu.
He said that today's meeting also addressed issues related to the European integration agenda of the Republic of Moldova, the situation in the region in the context of the war in Ukraine, the flow of refugees and the humanitarian crisis.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, Luigi Di Maio, reiterated Italy's support for our country and thanked the Chisinau authorities for their support in the repatriation of Italian citizens from Ukraine. He said a 10m-euro joint project with the UN fund would be developed to provide assistance to minors and elderly citizens in the region.
Today, the head of Italian diplomacy will have meetings with President Maia Sandu, Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița.
