Moldovan, Italian officials broach current situation

Chisinau, March 15 / MOLDPRES /-Speaker Igor Grosu met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic Luigi Di Maio. The meeting was also attended by deputies Galina Sajin, Doina Gherman, Mihail Druța and Constantin Starîș, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
Officials discussed the regional security situation caused by the war in Ukraine, including the humanitarian crisis and the possibilities for providing assistance to refugees.
"We are watching the war in Ukraine with concern and pain, and we strongly condemn the Russian aggression in the neighboring country. The Republic of Moldova acted from the outset to provide assistance to Ukrainians fleeing the war. At the moment, we are hosting and helping tens of thousands of refugees from the neighboring country, most of them elderly, women and children, and here we are also counting on the help of European states to deal with the humanitarian crisis generated by the conflict in Ukraine, " Grosu said.
In this context, the speaker thanked the Italian authorities for their humanitarian aid.
During the meeting, the officials addressed the subject of the energy crisis and the necessary solutions to ensure the energy independence of the Republic of Moldova. It was also discussed the intensification of bilateral relations between our countries, especially in trade.
Grosu referred to the priorities of the Parliament of the 11th Legislature, including integration into the European Union, the fight against corruption and the reform of the judiciary.
"Parliament has an agenda full of reforms that we will honor, because only then will we be able to have functioning institutions and increase the quality of life of citizens," he said.
