Spain to assist Moldova in managing wave of refugees

Chisinau, March 16 / MOLDPRES /- The Spanish Cooperation Agency will send 30 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees in the Republic of Moldova later this week.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Jose Manuel Albares Bueno, stated in a joint press conference in Chisinau with Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, that “Spain will help the Moldovan state in managing the Ukrainian refugees ”and announced that 30 tons of humanitarian aid and a field hospital will arrive in Chisinau at the end of this week.

At the same time, the Spanish official said that the bilateral relations between the two states must develop, the Spanish authorities considering that "the Republic of Moldova has a common future together with the great family of European countries".

Also, the Spanish Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albares Bueno, agreed with the idea of signing an agreement recognizing the driving licenses issued by the Moldovan authorities.

The Spanish diplomat concluded that at the moment "the European Union's efforts are being made to stabilize peace in Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and the entire European continent."

In his turn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, Nicu Popescu, thanked for the material and financial support provided by the Spanish authorities and for the support in the European integration process of the Moldovan state based on the principles of meritocracy. "Moldovan society has given a firm mandate to bring Moldova into the European Union. The Moldovan state wants to join the EU and will deepen and strengthen democracy and reforms. We believe that the next waves of EU enlargement will be based on meritocracy ", the Moldovan official specified.

This is the second visit by a Spanish foreign minister to Chisinau. The first visit was made in 2008. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Spain.
