Chisinau, 16 March /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain José Manuel Albares Bueno, the parliament’s communication and public relations department reported.
Attending the event were the head of the parliament’s commission for foreign policy and European integration, Doina Gherman, the head of the commission for human rights and inter-ethnic relations, Grigore Novac, as well as the head and a member of the group of friendship with Spain, Veronica Rosca and Viorel Barda, respectively.
Igor Grosu thanked the Spanish diplomacy head for his visit to Moldova, which he described as a strong signal of support for the country and its citizens in these difficult times.
”We have to manage several crises concomitantly, including the one of refugees – a situation Moldova has never faced in its history. We thank the Kingdom of Spain, all our European partners for the support provided in the efforts of overcoming the crises,’’ the speaker stressed.
The parliament speaker noted that the backing and encouraging of Moldova’s European integration efforts was quite important for the country.
„Despite an economic burden, at this point, we host and help tens of thousands of refugees from the neighbor country. We succeed in doing this due to an exemplary mobilization on behalf of our authorities and citizens, who have offered their homes for people from Ukraine in the last 20 days. At the same time, in this effort, we count, in continuation, on the assistance of the other European states, in order to cope with this humanitarian crisis. Moldova manages several crises concomitants – a situation which has never been recorded in its history. Thus, we need projects on the diversification of the energy resources, as well as the boosting of the commercial relations, so that the native products reach the markets of the EU countries,’’ the parliament speaker said.
Igor Grosu appreciated the Spanish authorities’ determination to help Moldova in the complicated context dealing with the refugees’ crisis and the energy crisis and that Spain would continue providing Moldova with every needed assistance.
In the end, Igor Grosu and José Manuel Albares Bueno highlighted that, in those 30 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Moldova and Spain, the two countries had a strong partnership of cooperation. The proof of this is also the harmonious integration of Moldova’s Diaspora in this country.
At the same time, the officials expressed mutual interest in the extension of the cooperation at all levels, including the parliamentary one and the friendship groups have a special role in this respect.
