Presidents of Moldova, Switzerland discuss situation in region, bilateral cooperation

Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met President of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis, on a first visit by a head of state of Switzerland to Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
The officials discussed the suffering through the Ukrainian nation is going, reaffirming the support for dialogue and peace, as well as solidarity with those who fled the war. At the same time, the Moldovan head of state thanked for the humanitarian assistance provided by Switzerland in the management of the flow of refugees and for the financial support worth 2 million Swiss francs, announced today.
At the meeting, the two heads of state also discussed the bilateral cooperation. President Maia Sandu stressed the importance of the signing of a free trade agreement between Moldova and the countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which would provide additional opportunities of export for Moldovan goods, especially in the current regional context and the urgent need to reorient them. ‘’During those 30 years of diplomatic relations between our countries, Switzerland has backed numerous projects in such sectors as local development, health, education, rural tourism and migration. We have a good cooperation at the economic level,’’ President Maia Sandu said in the end of the meeting with President of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis.
