Chisinau, 23 March /MOLDPRES/ - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will invest 17 million dollars in the next four years, in order to contribute to the strengthening and diversification of Moldova’s energy sector.
According to USAID, the Energy Security of Moldova project has three key goals: improvement of the physical and market integration of Moldova’s energy system with Europe, enhancement of the integration of the renewable energy and enhancing the resilience to the climate changes and attraction of investments in local capacities of generating internal electric energy and the energy efficiency. The cooperation with the companies which provide public services and the people in charge of the policies for establishing achievable goals and identifying locations for renewable energy projects can encourage investors to develop such projects, providing business and economic opportunities to Moldova.
The Energy Security of Moldova project is based on the earlier technical assistance on behalf of USAID, in order to back the government’s efforts to diversify the sources of energy supply. These previous efforts include the construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline, which already provides an alternative to the Russian gas and connects the Moldovan gas transportation system to Romania and Europe.
The Energy Security of Moldova project has duration of four years and is implemented by Tetra Tech ES, Inc., with the participation of local and international specialists.
