Chisinau, 24 March /MOLDPRES/ - The European Parliament’s plenum, by wide majority, with 558 fors, 10 abstentions and 20 cons, today ruled to provide macro-financial assistance worth 150 million euros to support Moldova. The assistance is made up of non-refundable funds of 30 million euros and loans on easy terms amounting to 120 million euros.
Romanian MEP Siegfried Muresan made statements to this effect today.
According to Muresan, the first installment of this assistance will come to Moldova in the nearest time, in order to be used where it is badly needed.
“Moldova is the European country which received the largest number of refugees from Ukraine as compared to its population and the largest than any EU member state. More than 370,000 refugees from Ukraine have crossed the border to Moldova in the last four weeks. People opened their homes to host refugees and Moldova’s authorities did everything necessary to help the people coming from Ukraine. The entire Europe has understood in these weeks that Moldova is as relevant for the European Union’s security as Ukraine. Yet, the Chisinau authorities urgently need as much support as possible on behalf of us, in order to manage this crisis,’’ Muresan said.
Siegfried Muresan asked the European Parliament to prepare a new support for Moldova, besides this assistance of 150 million euros.
