Chisinau, March 25 / MOLDPRES /- The Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova and the General Directorate of Customs within the Romanian National Agency for Fiscal Administration have implemented the e-Customs Pilot Project within the EU4Digital Program, funded by the European Union. The project included the automatic exchange of information through the SEED (Systematic Electronic Data Interchange) system between the customs authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Romania.
According to the Customs Service, on 24-25 March 2022, within 24 hours, at the crossing point of the Leușeni - Albita border, the participating customs administrations exchanged electronic data on the means of transport without goods.
The e-Customs project was designed after a successful pilot between Lithuania and Belarus and based on over ten years of experience in using the SEED application for the exchange of customs data in the Western Balkans.
Following the completion of the Pilot Project, EU experts will draw up a list of recommendations on how the SEED solution can be implemented, which will also be forwarded to the European Commission. Thus, following the testing of the SEED application, it will be possible to analyze the appropriateness of its use for the electronic exchange of customs data, in a more extensive format, including for means of transport of goods.
In the context of the implementation of the Pilot Project, the customs authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Romania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding which expressly provides for the category and requirements of the dataset for automatic exchange.
