Moldovan parliament speaker meets Romanian senators

Chisinau, 25 March /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has had a meeting with Romanian senators Cătălin-Daniel Fenechiu, Vasilică Potecă, Iulian Mihail Bîca and with European MP Viorel Badea, on a visit to Chisinau to participate in a roundtable titled, Romania and Moldova, together again, in European Union. The event is organized jointly with the Department for Relation with Moldova of Romania’s government, the parliament’s communication and public relations general department has reported.

Attending the event were the deputy head of the parliament’s juridical commission for appointments and immunities, head of the friendship group with Romania Veronica Rosca, the secretary of the commission for foreign policy and European integration, Adrian Balutel.    

Igor Grosu welcomed the presence of the Romanian Senate’s delegation in Moldova’s parliament and highlighted the significance of the visit on a quite complicated period.  

”The importance of our special relations does not need reasoning, especially in moments of ordeal, when more solidarity, joint actions and mutual support are necessary,’’ Igor Grosu said.        

The parliament speaker informed about the latest developments in Moldova, in the context of the war in Ukraine, especially about how the crisis of the refugees coming from Ukraine is managed.  

”We keep an eye on what is happening there with grief and we do our utmost to help the citizens of Ukraine who come to Moldova, fleeing the war. The wave of refugees exceed our institutional capacities and here we thank the ordinary people, volunteers, local authorities, economic agents for involvement and help,’’ Igor Grosu said.  

In the context, the parliament speaker stressed that the humanitarian, logistic, as well as budgetary support of the European partners was of major importance for Moldova.   

Igor Grosu thanked the government of Romania for every support, provided promptly and without hesitation, in the difficult humanitarian situation, including for the consignment of crude oil, diesel and petrol received by Moldova on the last days.   

The speaker pointed out the major needs, in the context of Moldova’s efforts to efficiently manage the refugees’ crisis, as well as for maintaining the economic stability and enhancing the energy security and independence.  

”We need as many as possible investments from Romania, which are to take roots here and sustainably unite both economies,’’ Igor Grosu stressed.     

At the same time, the parliament speaker expressed interest in Romania’s experience and assistance in the European integration process. The sides reached an agreement for the MPs to boost the cooperation on this segment, especially at the level of commissions for foreign policy.      

The members of the Romanian Senate’s delegation shared the concern of the Romanian state about the events in Ukraine and the situation in Moldova, which has the highest share of Ukrainian refugees per inhabitant.  

Highly appreciating Moldova’s actions for the good management of the humanitarian crisis, the Romanian lawmakers assured the Moldovan authorities of the support of these efforts and spoke out for a close cooperation and mutual support.  

At the meeting, the Moldovan side reiterated gratitude for the valuable assistance provided by the Romanian nation for the processes of Moldova’s development, through numerous programmes carried out in settlements, education institutions, infrastructure objects. The sides voiced interest in the organization of joint visits by MPs from both states to districts and villages of Moldova, which benefited from financial assistance on behalf of Romania.
