WHO donated new batch of medicines to Moldova

Chisinau, March 29 / MOLDPRES /- The World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union have donated another eight tonnes of medical products, medicines and rapid tests to the Ministry of Health.

According to the Ministry of Health, the donation comes in response to the refugee crisis. The batch includes 55 modules for trauma care, 10 trauma bags, 24 sets for the treatment of non-communicable diseases and for emergency medical situations, 300,000 rapid antigen tests for SARS-CoV-2, protective equipment. The value of the donation is about 804,500 US dollars.

"We must recognize that our resources are limited and that we do not want the burden of this humanitarian crisis to be felt by our citizens. In this context, we turned to external partners, international institutions, including the WHO, for support. We need to strengthen the national capacity of the system to provide full health care to both Ukrainian refugees and our citizens, "said Ala Nemerenco, Minister of Health.

"The WHO has mobilized two million dollars to procure essential medicines and medical products. We will not stop here. Our priority is to ensure that the Republic of Moldova and all countries involved in the humanitarian response have the necessary infrastructure and expertise to meet this challenge, which puts enormous pressure on human and financial resources, "said Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe.

The World Health Organization has announced that it will continue to support the Ministry of Health and the authorities in managing the COVID-19 pandemic and the refugee crisis, providing technical support and goods, together with partners and UN agencies Moldova Moldova.
