Moldovan Supreme Security Council makes more recommendations due to ensure efficient combating of corruption

Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ - The subject on combating the big corruption was discussed at a today’s meeting of the Supreme Security Council (CSS), summoned by President Maia Sandu, the presidential press service has reported.
The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG), National Anticorruption Centre and the Security and Information Service unveiled information on measures undertaken by the authorities on cases of big corruption. The participants in the meeting discussed also constraints faced in the process of investigation of the one-billion-dollar theft, as well as other big frauds and abuses.
The CSS members stressed the need of an as quick as possible finality on the concerned causes of corruption and recovery of the financial means and assets stolen from Moldova’s citizens. In the context, the Supreme Security Council made more recommendations to the institutions in charge of combating corruption, and namely:
- The Justice Ministry, in cooperation with PG, should elaborate legislative amendments necessary for reducing opportunities of abusive exercise of rights in processes of investigation and consideration in court; should work out legislative instruments for enhancing the efficiency of recovering the assets got fraudulently;
- The Prosecutor General’s Office should adopt strategies of investigation, which are to speed up the finality both on separate episodes from the complex files and on the complex files of investigation of big frauds and corruption;
- The Superior Council of Magistracy should consolidate the effort of ensuring the judges’ integrity.
- The parliament should adopt, as priority, legislative amendments needed for strengthening the capacities of the bodies of investigation and consideration of causes in court.
