Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ - „Slovakia will further support Moldova’s accession to the European Union, regarding it as part of the EU family,’’ said President of Slovakia Zuzana Čaputová at a meeting with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The officials exchanged opinions on the war in Ukraine; both states spoke out for the cessation of the combat actions and the settlement of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine by peaceful means.
Natalia Gavrilita thanked for the assistance provided by the government of Slovakia, through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, for the needs of the Ukrainian citizens who took refuge to Moldova. In the context, the PM noted that Moldova was facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis and the support of the partners from the European Union was essential.
„The government focuses all efforts on the efficient management of the flow of refugees and maintaining stability in Moldova as regards the public order, work of the infrastructure, as well as the management of the financial situation. We further rely on the support of the EU member states, including Slovakia, which has proved, during years, that it is a reliable partner,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.
In the context, the prime minister noted that although emergency state was declared in Moldova and more efforts are made to manage the flow of refugees, the justice reform and the combating of corruption stayed priority on the government’s agenda of reforms.
The officials reiterated the need to strengthen the bilateral commercial and economic relations. ‘’The war in the neighbor country has created major obstacles to export market of Moldova in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. Now, as never before, we need more openness as regards the possibility to diversify the export markets,’’ PM Gavrilita stressed.
The discussions’ agenda also included subjects on the energy efficiency of both states. The president of Slovakia said that her country was in process of diversifying the energy resources and was open for sharing its experience in this sector.
