Moldovan choreographer paid last respects

Chisinau, 31 March /MOLDPRES/ - A master of the Moldovan stage, choreographer, teacher, Master in Art, Merited Artist, holder of the Labour Glory Order and of the Order of the Republic, laureate of the National Prize, the first director of the National Choreography College Iurii Gorscov was paid his last respects today. The artist passed away on at the age of 77 years on 29 March.  

Contacted by MOLDPRES, choreographer Eugen Garnet said that master Iurii Gorscov had been and remained the patriarch of the Moldovan national choreography. ‘’He was a polyvalent talent, a spiritual mentor and father not only for his children, but also for many graduates of the Choreography College and of the Choreography Department of the Music, Theatre and Fine Arts Academy (AMTAP). In 1991, he founded the National Choreography College, which was his second home. He opened the choreography department at AMTAP. His disciples work at the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Joc National Ballet and other collectives from all over the world. Many of them became laureates of international contests,’’ Eugen Garnet said.  

Iurii Gorscov was born in the Prosvet village, Ketovo district, Kurgan region, Russia, on 27 June 1944. He finished the folk dances section of the Stefan Neaga Music College in 1962. As of 1963, the artist worked as soloist of Joc Ensemble. In 1982, Gorscov was awarded the title Merited Artist of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic. During 1991-2016, he was director of the Chisinau-based National Choreography College. Iurii Gorscov was buried at the Central Orthodox Cemetery on the Armeneasca Street from Chisinau.
