Chisinau, 31 March /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 730 pupils, who study at the Alecu Russo Theoretical Lyceum from the Cojusna village, central Straseni district, will continue their education in modern conditions, after the institution has been capitally renovated, endowed with furniture and advanced equipment. The repair works ended in March and were carried out within the Education Reform in Moldova Project, implemented with the World Bank’s support, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today visited the institution and discussed with teachers and pupils. The PM expressed confidence that that new conditions for education positively influenced children’s motivation to make quality education. The prime minister appreciated including the fact that children from more settlements would benefit from modernized conditions for education, as the institution is a district school. The last repair of the institution was made almost 50 years ago; therefore, after the renovation, both the pupils and teachers say they come to the lyceum with much happiness.

The overall value of the works of the lyceum’s renovation and endowment works amount to 18 million lei. New furniture, advanced technology for classrooms were purchased, new engineering networks and supervisions systems were set. The kitchen, physician’s office and the sports hall were endowed with modern equipment. To supply the institution with water source, an artesian well was constructed. It is worth mentioning that the lyceum has earlier not been connected to drinking water source.

In discussions with the prime minister, children said that, after they had returned to the renovated school, the classed became more interesting and were organized interactively. Screens, new furniture and laboratories are now used during classes and each pupil has his/her own cupboard for clothes.

„We must modernize as many schools, so that all children of Moldova enjoy such conditions for education. I want to encourage you to study as much as possible. You can be successful only if you study and work. Even if you have interactive tables, nothing can replace the books and reading,’’ Natalia Gavrilita told the pupils.

The lyceum’s headmaster, Daniela Donoagă, informed the PM about the institution’s development plans, the intention to build a sports ground outdoors, as well as about the fact that she had employed three persons refugees from Ukraine, who appreciated much the receptiveness and conditions in which they were received in the settlement.

„Such projects represent a foundation stone in the reformation of the entire education system. We have all conditions necessary, even virtual classrooms. We, the teachers, have nothing to do but plan the classes in such a way, that they are as attractive as possible for pupils,’’ the teacher of Romanian, Mariana Postica, said.

For her part, Natalia Gavrilita assured that the government would continue attracting as many as possible funds to invest not only in the modernization of schools, but also in the training of teachers. ‘’Your effort lays the foundations for developing the future, due to the young people who will bring Moldova value added. I thank you for dedication, because you remain in the country and invest in our children. We trust a lot the teachers’ effort and we will invest to reform the entire sector of teaching,’’ the PM noted.

The Cojusna district school is one of those 23 institutions from Moldova, which were renovated within the Education Reform in Moldova Project, implemented by the Education and Research Ministry during 2013-2022. The costs were covered through a World Bank’s loan worth 50 million dollars in all.

Due to the aforementioned project, 16,000 pupils benefited from education in modern conditions; 100 education institutions were endowed with modern equipment and materials for the inclusive education for 1,700 children with disabilities; 10,000 laptops were bought to ensure the access to the distance education; 160 education institutions were endowed with the needed equipment and materials for the physics, chemistry, and biology laboratories. Also, 9,000 education system employees benefited from trainings for the development of the professional competences. All actions were aimed at improving the quality of the education process and optimizing the education sector.
